Whiting Cree Hackle

Whiting – Cree Rooster Capes and Saddles

Cree is a prized, beautiful hackle, often called a “Holy Grail.” It’s essentially a grizzly hackle with ginger between the black and white bars. This rare color appears in only about 1 in 1000 birds, driving high prices. Cree varies in shade (pale, light, medium, dark). Pale cree features cream between black and white; light has light ginger; medium, medium ginger; and dark, dark ginger. Barring can be imperfect, with a third color adding complexity. Color distribution varies – sometimes the third color is thin, other times dominant. Like dark barred ginger, the ginger can fade from cream to dark red near the black. When combined with chevron barring, it’s called “Classic Cree,” an extremely rare variety.
