Coachman Brown: This color ranges from dark red brown to almost black. Whiting Coachman brown is dyed and are of high quality. Natural Coachman Brown feathers are almost always “soft”. For some reason, natural dark-colored feathers rarely work well for dry flies because their barbs aren’t stiff enough. Finding mid-level to high-quality natural Coachman brown dry fly hackle is extremely rare.
