Yellowstone, Cree Rooster Capes and Saddles
Cree hackle, a rare and highly sought-after material by fly tiers, is a unique variation of grizzly hackle. It’s distinguished by the presence of ginger tones within the black and white bars. This specific coloration, found in only about one in a thousand birds, dramatically increases its value. Cree hackle displays a range of shades, from pale to dark, with cream, light ginger, medium ginger, or dark ginger tones appearing between the bars. Like grizzly hackle, the barring pattern is inconsistent, and the ginger hue accentuates this variability. The proportions of color vary widely; sometimes the ginger is thinly spaced, while at other times it dominates. The ginger coloring can also shift gradually from cream to reddish. A chevron ginger pattern is known as “Classic Cree,” a particularly exceptional and rare find.
