Heritage Cree, Rooster Capes and Saddles
Cree hackle, prized by fly tiers for its unique beauty, is a rare form of grizzly hackle with ginger tones between the black and white bars. This specific coloration, occurring in roughly 1 of 1,000 birds, significantly elevates its value. Cree hackle ranges from pale to dark, with cream, light ginger, medium ginger, or dark ginger tones filling the space between the bars. Like grizzly hackle, its barring is inconsistent, and the added ginger hue increases variability. Color proportions vary widely, with ginger sometimes thinly spaced or even dominant. The ginger can also transition smoothly from cream to a reddish tone. A chevron ginger pattern is known as “Classic Cree,” an extremely rare variety.
