Hebert Cree Rooster Capes and Saddles

Cree hackle, a rare and highly sought-after material by fly tiers, is a unique variation of grizzly hackle characterized by the presence of ginger tones within the black and white bars. This specific coloration, found in only about one in a thousand birds, dramatically increases its value. Cree hackle exhibits a range of shades, from pale to dark, with cream, light ginger, medium ginger, or dark ginger tones appearing between the bars. Similar to grizzly hackle, the barring pattern is inconsistent, and the addition of the ginger hue further enhances this variability. The proportions of color can vary greatly; sometimes the ginger is thinly spaced, while at other times it can be dominant. The ginger coloring can also gradually shift from cream to a reddish hue. A chevron ginger pattern is recognized as “Classic Cree,” a particularly exceptional and rare find.
